Strike While the Iron is Hot

My new job means dressing up a little bit more than I did in my last one.  Nothing too fancy, just dress pants and a dress shirt, but that requires a bit more pre-planning than jeans and a decent shirt.  Most notably, that means I’ve had to dust off the old iron and ironing board.

Unlike most people, I’m a fan of ironing.  You just turn on the TV for some distracting background noise and get to work.   I also like the immediate sense of accomplishment you get once the shirt goes from wrinkled to not, much like washing dishes, vacuuming or mowing the lawn.  It’s also the same reason I like folding laundry.  It’s a mindless activity with instant, tangible benefits.

That being said, I’ve got to adjust my laundry schedule so I don’t find myself at the end of my few dozen dress shirts and I have to spend hours standing at the ironing board.  Like most mindless activities, ironing is best doled out in shorter segments.  I’ll probably also have to build in time to get out baby-related stains, which will completely throw off my established laundry schedule.

Oh, the trials and tribulations of my complicated life, eh?
